Downsizing in middle age

We are firmly in middle age—and we are moving to a smaller, much smaller place. We are lucky that we are doing this by choice. We are choosing things we value. A shorter commute, less house/yard work (more flexible time), more knitting time, less driving (much less as we are giving up our car by early September, when the next insurance payment is due).

I have never been very good at blogging about knitting or cooking—because I wanted to do those things rather than write about them. But this adventure, particularly now that we are moving in 1 day, is one that I want to try and chronicle.

So some guidelines for this blog. I don't want this to be about "the right way to live." It is about the way we want to live which is different, very different. So I hope I can blog about the upside and the downside.

Right now, with the house full of boxes, the biggest downsides are deeply personal. We are leaving a great neighborhood and great neighbors. We will miss them. We are also leaving our lovely screened porch. But the neighbors are friends and we will see them again. And the porch, well someone else will now enjoy it.

Tomorrow I will post pictures from the move.
